Legal Forms

Legal forms are abundant today. Most of them are available on the internet for free. But be careful: if you don’t pay attention to what you are doing, you could wind up filling out the wrong form, and your legal woes could be monstrous. Here are a few tips to keep yourself out of trouble.

  • Consult a lawyer. It seems like an obvious one, but so few people take the time to consult with a lawyer about their legal needs. The cost of a lawyer consultation can be minimal compared to legal fees and other problems if you file the wrong forms. Contact one and ask for a half hour of their time to go over the forms with you. It will save you plenty in the long run.
  • Read, read, read. Legal forms are notorious for their fine print. Make sure that you go over every last bit of the instructions, warnings, and other notices. Don’t just stop at reading them, either: be sure that you comprehend it and can internalize the information before you move on.
  • Online sources. There are government websites that have detailed instructions for choosing the legal form that you need. Look at their requirements and make a decision based on that. That way, you know you are using the right ones.

It is increasingly difficult to wade through legal paperwork in this country. Make sure that you are not too proud to ask for help. Your pride could cost you thousands.
